Revenge
Dear Diary,
Have you ever had someone do something to you and you just want to get back at them, do something way worse than what they did to you?? Then again...you are a diary so what am I asking. On a serious note though, oftentimes when I feel hurt and betrayed I just want to do the unthinkable and get back at that person. Listen...walking with the Lord is not “peaches and cream.” No, it most definitely isn’t. I am often convicted in the spirit whenever I think or do anything wrong but walking with the Lord is most definitely worth it.
Anyways, I am straying from the point of revenge. What is wrong with “an eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth?” I bet if we do that “bullies” would know their place. Yes, you better not mess with me or I will give it to you!! Just try me!! However, the word of the Lord speaks against avenging yourself in Romans 12:19-21. Verse 19 states, “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord” (NIV). Have you ever heard about something called “karma?” Well, this is it and it is as real as they come. The other day I was reflecting on my past and I was like, wow!! Guess what?? I was hit with karma, in biblical words, I reaped what I sowed. Oh how I wanted to burst out in tears, repenting of the sins that I had committed knowingly and unknowingly.
In case you didn’t know, let me tell you, when you sow evil things, you will reap evil things and when you sow good things, you will reap good things. Therefore, instead of taking up matters into your own hands please remember that the Lord said that vengeance is His. What I am about to say next is a very difficult one (even for myself) but you should do it regardless, do it genuinely. Verse 21 states, “ On the contrary:If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Hahaha, I can imagine how much you are laughing at me and saying, “Me, feed him/her, give him/her a drink??? You must be out of your mind!!!” As I said before, I know this is not easy, it is even difficult for me but I still try my best. Listen, if you are going to do it and brag about how you had to help the person that hurt/betray you, it doesn’t make any sense you even do it. All glory belongs to the Lord, not to yourself; therefore, pray and ask God for help. He will allow you to do what you need to do with a genuine heart.
P.S. when you read Romans 12: 19-21 and it says, “heap coals of fire on his head,” that means that the person that did you wrong may feel a sense of shame or remorse when we treat them kindly. Remember, do things with a genuine heart and leave the rest to God!
Love,

Thank you for these inspiring words. It is definitely not easy to do good to those who hurt us. With the help of God we will surely stand strong. "On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand"
